About Me
I am married and we live in a beautiful part of South West Scotland near Langholm. We share our lives with nine rescued cats and a rescued dog. I officially retired twelve years ago sine then however I have run two buisnesses...one making Bagpipes and one making and selling wooden crafts (some 90 different product lines at its peak) All this came to an end when a close member of my family was killed in the London Bombings in 2005 since when I have devoted my energies into promoting respect, acceptance, Human Rights and peace. I find that working within areas of conflict to seek resolutions and dialogue to be very rewarding. I have a deep love of people from all over the world of every culture and race. Above all I believe that peace is achievable and will become a fact of life soon.
Interests
Human Rights, prisoner freedoms, Peace.
Nature, music, animals and trees,

Additional info about myself
"There can be no higher calling than to be the voice of those forbidden to speak,
there can be no struggle more worthy than to seek acceptance, respect and peace for all people,
and there is no gift greater than the outstretched hand of friendship."

7th Day of Every Month

As each month rolls by I wonder how many of you still light a candle each 7th day of the Month in solidarity with the first ever Light Protest on the eve of the Chinese Games in 2008. Tonight my Tibet Candle again was lit and burned all evening till nearly midnight in my front window. I reflected that this once long thick candle that was once a huge candle but is now down to a stub just a few cms long. That is a lot of hours of burning. But still the freedom of Tibet has not come. And soon the y… Continue

Candle 4 Freedom

08.08.08

Tonight a candle again burned at our window as it will throughout the period of these Games as a symbol of the hope for freedom 4 Tibet. Thereafter I shall light a candle on the 7th night of each month until Tibet is Free…accept on the 7th of July I shall light two candles, one in memory of our Helen.

I wondered if I might feel a sense of anti-climax after the 7th August. After all who am I to think I can have any effect on world affairs. I am just am unimportant little fellow sitting… Continue

Prayer for change

From a mother whose daughter was murdered comes this multi-faith request:-

Lord
only you have the power to change people.
Please transform that person known only to you,
to turn them away from violence,
to change their hatred into love,
and let your love be channelled through them.

No Room For Hate

Shortly after Helen was murdered in the London Bombings I wrote this to state our position:-

No Room for Hate.

There is no room within my heart
for revenge, fire or hate
there is no room within my mind
for any thoughts like these.

I cannot find the words to say
just how it is I feel
but I know from deepest hurt
I must forgiveness find.

The hurt that’s been done to us
cuts sore like a knife,
but we must not, repay in kind
what has been done to us.

Instead we must try and find
the way that is… Continue

I am the Candle Flame

I am the candle flame for Tibet on high
My country stolen mountains in the sky
Valleys weep your clouds float on by
Freedom taken from me that’s why I cry
Oh mountain trails how I miss your track
My flame burns bright I want you back
Within my soul I yearn my eyes wet
Tibet you were my life ill not forget
Why did you come take my home away?
Even then you didn’t ask I had no say
You stole my heart my spirit all I had
Now here I burn my flame bright but sad
What did I do I ask the question why
For I grow weary to see my land for I die
Here I stand you smile look down on me
Ill fight for you till my death to set you free
So many years i've suffered silent in pain
How I yearn to touch your gentle soil again
To climb to yonder mountain peek above
Once more my spirit to feel of your love

Vigil

Where are you now,
with your palms together,
bowing,
your dark red robes
wrapping the wisdom
of a thousand years,
white knife peaks,
and over six thousand
monasteries?

Your home not your home
and yet your home always,
you wander,
you meditate,
you chant and pray;
you teach, you love,
or you stay
and must keep quiet.

Yet prayer flags still blow
in high Tibetan air,
prayer flags still blow
in the deep dark-eyed hearts
of your people.
There are places
the intruders,
the violators
cannot reach–
places alive with
the smiles and tears
of your lost land.

Red robed ones
with your calm eyes
upon the world,
you who pay homage
to the consciousness
in all things,
you who see far beyond
appearances:
you know past time,
you love past duality,
and yet you cry too.

The mountains of Tibet,
the vast plateaus and
green valleys,
the sky lakes and blue rivers,
the sons and daughters
of this sacred land
know and wait for you,
and for their time
within space and beyond
to be free.
