Archbishop Desmond Tutu to the Dalai Lama: We stand with you

(Photo taken by Carey Linde in Vancouver, Canada in 2004 - Wikimedia Commons)

Dear Members,

Archbishop Desmond Tutu has recently stepped forward to express concern in a letter at what he called the deterioration of the human rights situation in Tibet.

We the undersigned Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, human rights leaders and concerned individuals wish to express our concern at the current deterioration of the human rights situation in Tibet, and the apparent breakdown of the talks between the Chinese government and emissaries of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. We are dismayed at the lack of any concrete progress toward resolving the conflict over the autonomy and religious freedom of the Tibetan people, and urge all parties involved to redouble their effort to achieve this vital goal.

"To our dear friend His Holiness the Dalai Lama, we say: we stand with you. You define non-violence and compassion and goodness. Clearly China does not know you. It is our sincere hope that they will. We call on China's government to know His Holiness the Dalai Lama, as we and so many others have come to know him during the long decades he has spent in exile.

The South African Nobel Peace Prize laureate asks us to raise our voices in support of the Dalai Lama and human rights.

Please sign the letter today and stand with them for the future of the Tibetan religion and culture.

In order for the signatures in support of Bishop Desmond Tutu's protest to reach him, please link directly to the original online posting from Mary Wald at TheCommunity.com. We have agreed to publish only part of this letter and link directly to The Community site where you can read the full text and sign in support. Please encourage your friends to do the same...

With thanks and gratitude,

Welcome to Candle for Tibet

By uniting our light for freedom in Tibet, we have started something huge. Our candle symbolizes our non-violent pledge to work together until there is freedom for the people of Tibet. CFT will work without end to support all Tibetans worldwide in their quest for cultural and religious freedom.

Candle4Tibet (CFT) will always be a network of PEOPLE who cherish the value of freedom and together create a unique movement. It is a true grassroots movement and is non-violent and non-profit.

We will strive to develop our network into the biggest global support group for Tibet, and all our future actions for Tibet will be conducted from here as well as linking to other actions globally.

Our network will be a treasure of information about Tibet, its culture and its heritage. Our links page contains dozens of Tibetan sites providing a wealth of information.

We will seek to work in cooperation and harmony with ALL Tibet support organizations in the world.

At the moment we need your active help in couple of areas:

Invite your friends. It is easy. With a few mouse clicks, using this link, you can invite your whole address book.

Design and create banners for the network. If you know how and can do that, please let one of the admins know. We will use these banners in our marketing campaigns

Love

David

To the Mother that bore us, nurtured us, fed us
From the bountiful orchards that sustained our growth,

I write for Her today, hereby taking an oath
To pay homage to the Mother from whom we came.

As toddlers, we began to crawl over the earth

No Room For Hate

Shortly after Helen was murdered in the London Bombings I wrote this to state our position:-

No Room for Hate.

There is no room within my heart
for revenge, fire or hate
there is no room within my mind
for any thoughts like these.

I cannot find the words to say
just how it is I feel
but I know from deepest hurt
I must forgiveness find.

The hurt that’s been done to us
cuts sore like a knife,
but we must not, repay in kind
what has been done to us.

Instead we must try and find
the way that is… Continue

Don't Forget About China's Dissidents

By ELLEN BORK
August 7, 2008; Page A13

In the 1970s, the People's Republic of China held out appeal for American intellectuals disillusioned with Soviet Communism.

Journalists, academics, artists and religious leaders made the journey. Their admiring accounts reveal, as Paul Hollander described in his book "Political Pilgrims," that most of the visitors saw what they wanted to see, and in any case only as much as their Chinese hosts allowed.

Visitors to China these days are not looking for a… Continue

Identity crisis

A very good friend of mine asked me a question today. What do you feel you are? An Indian or Tibetan?
I was taken aback for a few seconds, plus the noise in the auto rickshaw made it difficult for me to hear. At first I didn't realise what she had asked. Then she repeated herself. I didn't know what to say.
It wasn't that I was knocked out of my sweet dream-like life. I studied in a Tibetan school with predominantly Tibetan classmates. I spent two important years of my life in a Tibetan hostel a… Continue

I am the Candle Flame

I am the candle flame for Tibet on high
My country stolen mountains in the sky
Valleys weep your clouds float on by
Freedom taken from me that’s why I cry
Oh mountain trails how I miss your track
My flame burns bright I want you back
Within my soul I yearn my eyes wet
Tibet you were my life ill not forget
Why did you come take my home away?
Even then you didn’t ask I had no say
You stole my heart my spirit all I had
Now here I burn my flame bright but sad
What did I do I ask the question why
For I grow weary to see my land for I die
Here I stand you smile look down on me
Ill fight for you till my death to set you free
So many years i've suffered silent in pain
How I yearn to touch your gentle soil again
To climb to yonder mountain peek above
Once more my spirit to feel of your love

Vigil

Where are you now,
with your palms together,
bowing,
your dark red robes
wrapping the wisdom
of a thousand years,
white knife peaks,
and over six thousand
monasteries?

Your home not your home
and yet your home always,
you wander,
you meditate,
you chant and pray;
you teach, you love,
or you stay
and must keep quiet.

Yet prayer flags still blow
in high Tibetan air,
prayer flags still blow
in the deep dark-eyed hearts
of your people.
There are places
the intruders,
the violators
cannot reach–
places alive with
the smiles and tears
of your lost land.

Red robed ones
with your calm eyes
upon the world,
you who pay homage
to the consciousness
in all things,
you who see far beyond
appearances:
you know past time,
you love past duality,
and yet you cry too.

The mountains of Tibet,
the vast plateaus and
green valleys,
the sky lakes and blue rivers,
the sons and daughters
of this sacred land
know and wait for you,
and for their time
within space and beyond
to be free.
